Gap's Delay Over Bangladesh
GAP INC's CEO, Glenn Murphy, has revealed that the American retailer is willing to sign a European fire and safety pact, designed to prevent another Bangladeshifactory disaster, but only if there are changes made.
The discussion over the changes, which have not been specified but are believed to be surrounding the way conflicts are resolved in the courts, has delayed the signing of the pact, with Murphy commenting that the current proposal did not "make sense" for the company, reports Reuters."We've not given up that a global accord of some kind can be worked out," he added.
Drawn up by union IndustriaLL, the pact highlights the importance of safety standards for workers in Bangladgeshi garment factories.Almost 30 other companies have already signed the agreement, including H&M, Primark and Zara.
