"I"m a dress devotee, specifically vintage dresses" she tells The Telegraph over the phone from "boiling hot" New York where she"s been relying on the sweet styles to get her through the heatwave. It"s an idea which has been "a vision for a long time.I"ve put lots oftime into researching to make it a reality and balancing it with my other work,"she explains, "I wanted to hark back but make surethey feel great on the body."

The best news is that HVN- the collection"s name- has been created with a diverse array of women in mind."I love that these styles areso flattering and classic and look great on different women. It looks amazing on all body types and ages;my Mum,my sister and my friends"says Newton. In fact, it was Newton"s mother who first introduced her to the power of a retro tea dress."I"ve always shared wardrobes with my Mum.She jokes that we look like we"re dressed the same when we go out together now but we have a very similar style."
The collection launches today on Matchesfashion.com with the Jordan, Morgan and Maria dresses available in the UK; Jordan is a sleeveless style with a gathered waist and straps which mean you can still wear a bra, Morgan comes with slim 40s lapels, cap sleeves and that classic tea dressnipped-in waist while Maria is button-through with a dainty belt. They make you think of mid-centurystyle references as varied as Brigitte Bardot on the beach in Cannes oroff-duty Call the Midwife.

Obviously there"s a delectable range of "playful takes on classic prints"to choose from, including sweet blue hearts, watercolour cherrries and pale pinkgingham which Newton settled on because "I"d never found the perfect one, so I just decided to make it myself."For those who prefer something with a little edge, there"s a leopard and palm tree print on black which is an homage to Newton"s bengal- "that" the crazy cat lady in me" she laughs.
Newton"s main objective was to create something "effortless" but nevertheless, there are plenty of ways to wear the collection. She"s been styling the dresseswith simple flat sandalsbut remembers seeing all her friends wearing them in different ways at the New York launch party; model Martha Hunt paired hers with combat boots while Alexa Chung opted for ladylike high heels.

"In London and New York, you don"t know where your day will take you"Newton, who is already working on new prints for the next collection, reasons, "with a lipstick in your bag you can elevateand transform the dresses for evening.I"ve made neck scarves and hair ties which I"ve been wearing them with then layering with little jumpers and cardigans. There"s so many different ways you can wear them,I just love the idea of a dress you know you feel great in."
