Today In History - April 16
ON this day in history...
...2003, valuable pieces of jewellery, worth a total of £40,000, that once belonged to Marilyn Monroe were stolen from an exhibition devoted to the screen legend.A gold ring, featuring an 'M' motif and encrusted with a diamond, and a gold bangle were taken from the Roald Dahl Gallery on London's South Bank at approximately 3.20pm in the afternoon.A man was later arrested near the gallery in connection with the thefts.
...2007, US store Barney's then-creative director Simon Doonan called Kate Moss a "slag"."She is not a high-born girl," said the Reading-born Doonan."She's a working-class slag from a crap town, like me!"
...2007, siblings Christopher and Tammy Kane spoke of the advantages of working together."Working together means we can spread out our energy as well," said Tammy."If one of us is burning out, you can rely on the other to carry on.And if you're sharing responsibility, then the trust thing becomes paramount.People always think it's great that I work with my brother because they've seen what can happen in this industry when you don't have solid people alongside you.If Christopher did something wrong, I would just tell my mum.Dad had a family business in the past, and the things that went wrong have been a lesson for us."Christopher, meanwhile, said there was a social advantage to having his sibling by his side:"The brother-sister thing comes into its own at fashion parties," he said."Tammy and I always stick together. It can be quite intimidating when you walk in somewhere and it's a bit pretentious, especially if you don't know anybody. You need somebody to go and hide in the corner with."
