Viktor & Rolf On Stage
DUTCH design duoViktor & Rolf have created the costumes for Robert Wilson's new staging of the romantic opera Der Freischutz (The Freeshooter)by Carl Maria von Weber.Known for their flamboyant and forward-thinking creations, the pair used almost one million Crystallized™ Swarovski elements to create the colourful and show-stopping looks which, with a comic strip-meets-folkloric feel, mark the designers' second costume collaboration with Wilson. In November 2004, Viktor & Rolf also designed pieces for 2 Lips and Dancers and Space for the Netherlands Dance Theatre. For the wardrobes of Der Freischutz, expect the soloists to take to the stage in 3D constructions in bright saturated hues and words emblazoned across the front of panels and shoulders, while the choir will adopt traditional German inspired costume - think dirndls and lederhosen. The opera will premiere at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden on May 30 2009.
