How to buy Burberry's September Collection straight after tonight's London Fashion Week show
At 7:30pm tonight, at Maker???s House in Soho, Burberry will presentits first see-now, buy-now collection.Following in the footsteps of other major design houses this season, Burberry has renamed what would usually be the spring/summer "17 show, simply"The September Collection".
Comprisingwomenswear and menswear, Burberry"s showwill be seasonless, personal and immediately available to buy in stores globally and online tonight. At the same time, Burberry???s new advertising campaign, shot by Mario Testino, will appear in digital and print media worldwide. All store windowswill also display the collection immediately following the show, completely cutting the traditional six month gap between showing a collection and itappearing in the shops.
This new setup comes after Burberry???s February announcement of a change in the way it shows. The British brand revealed it would bescrappingthe traditional four-show calendar in favour of just two seasonless shows every year.Christopher Bailey, Burberry???s President and Chief Creative Officer, said:???The changes will allow us to build a closer connection between the experience that we create with our runway shows and the moment when people can physically explore the collections for themselves.???
It"s all part of renewed focus on the customer, with an awareness that fashion shows are now just as much created for customers as industry insiders. In short, it"s all about you.
Tune in tonightYou"ll be able to watch the show live tonight on Facebook and on Burberry"s website- The Telegraph"s fashion desk will also be liveblogging the whole affair in all its glory, from backstage snaps to the who"s on the front row and best bits from the show.
As soon as the catwalk has finished, the collection will be ready-to-shop and we"ll have an edit of all the best bits.
What the September Collection will look likeThe seasonless collection is influenced by Virginia Woolf???s Orlando, and will contrast masculine and feminine styles. But, as with any promising surprise, we are clawing for more details.Burberry revealed a taste of what???s to come last month by dropping the first images of their new campaign.
Shot by Mario Testino inthe Sculpture Gallery at Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, the campaign features Jean Campbell, Cavan McCarthy and Alex Dragulele.Whilst the men wear ruffled shirts which have a hint of the jane Austen lothario about them, Campbell poses in a ruff, mirroring the style of the statue beside her.The campaign also unveils Burberry???s new bag, The Bridle-a leather and Burberry-check pouch which isinspired by the brand???s long-standing relationship with the outdoors and, specifically, equestrianism.
???This campaign reflects a collection inspired by Virginia Woolf???s Orlando and also sets out to honour the many skilled craftspeople who work on Burberry???s iconic products.I am therefore very proud to be sharing Mario Testino???s incredible portraits of Jean Campbell, Cavan McCarthy and Alex Dragulee, which we have set alongside portraits of our talented Burberry artisans??? said Bailey.
Revealed on Burberry???s Instagram account last week were a floral field jacket, an ornate floral jacquard blazerand the Cavalry jacket, a highly-crafted, tailored military jacket in red and blue, embroidered with English regalia, which also features in the campaign.Central themes in the September Collection are set to be history, contrast, and the specialised work of artisans.
You are invited, tooAs if immediate access to the collection wasn???t enough, Burberry has actually invited you ??? yes, you ??? to the show space this week. From the 21st until the 27th September at Maker???s House, the new show space, the inner-workings of the Burberrywill be open to the public for free.
In collaboration with The New Craftsmen, Burberry???s artisans will set up shop for a week long exhibition, using the space to experiment and createoriginal works, using the collection???s inspiration as their starting point. It will be a celebration of method and material, with demonstrations of techniques, like sculpting and silk screen printing. The September collection will be curated within the space, and theatrical readings in collaboration with Pin Drop will happen at 1pm daily.
Bailey said, ???Just as Virginia Woolf???s Orlando is both a love-letter to the past and a work of profound modernity, this week-long exhibition aims to nod both at the design heritage that is so integral to Burberry???s identity, and to some of Britain???s most exciting creators, and the innovation behind their work.???
So even if you can"t immediately snap a cavalry jacket and ruffled shirt from Burberry"s collections, there"s still plenty of ways to get involved.
