SCARLETT JOHANSSON has spoken for the first time about her divorce, following weeks of speculation, to appeal for privacy and respect.The actress's separation from husband Romain Dauriac has been debated across the media, but Johansson hopes to draw a line under the matter, she said last night.

“I will never, ever be commenting on the dissolution of my marriage,” she told Page Six.“Out of respect for my desires as a parent and out of respect for all working moms, it is with kindness that I ask other parties involved and the media to do the same.”

Calling herself a “devoted mother and private person” Johansson explained that she had made the decision to keep her council on the matter with “complete awareness that my daughter will one day be old enough to read the news about herself”.

The former couple have reportedly begun discussions over custody for Rose, who is two.Dauriac's lawyer put forward his client's position last week, revealing that the journalist and creative agent "would like to move to France with his daughter" reasoning that "Ms Johansson does a lot of travelling.
